About Me: My Early Menopause Journey -

From Osteopenia Back to Strength

When I was 30, I went through early menopause. Those years weren't a highlight - heart palpitations, a 5 stone weight gain around my middle, energy levels in the gutter, and anxiety through the roof. After fighting for a diagnosis, I was also told I had osteopenia (the stage before osteoporosis) because years of low oestrogen levels had weakened my bone density.

I know exactly how it feels to be stuck in a body you don't recognise, with an identity that feels foreign. I transformed from a fit, strong, rock climbing, kayaking, mountaineering machine into someone who struggled to walk my dog. I abandoned all my fun hobbies through fear of breaking a bone, and because my energy levels were so unpredictable.

How Progressive Strength Training Reversed My Perimenopause Symptoms

Fortunately, I'd spent 15 years as a Personal Trainer helping perimenopausal women navigate these exact challenges. With specialised qualifications in women's health, menopause, pre & post-natal rehab, and as a certified nutritionist, I had the knowledge - I just needed to apply it to myself.

I became my own client overnight and was forced to "take my own medicine." This gave me profound appreciation for how challenging even the simplest things can be during perimenopause. Despite having a home gym and all the knowledge about what I should be doing, actually finding the energy to do it felt impossible.

The key that gave me back control? Progressive strength training.

Why Traditional Fitness Programs Fail Perimenopausal Women

Unlike most programs aimed at "midlife women" that focus on massive calorie deficits for your "mum tum" (which just leave you starving), HIIT workouts with 2kg dumbbells (which do nothing to build muscle or bone density), or expect daily exercise (unrealistic!), my approach is different.

Through consistent, strategic strength work, I reversed my osteopenia diagnosis, lost weight, regained my energy, and returned to feeling my best. Now I'm on a mission to help women like you do the same.

The Mindset Behind Strength Training During Hormonal Transitions

  • Focus on feeling, not just looking better - You won't find before/after photos here
  • Exercise as energy-giving, not depleting - Every session should leave you feeling better than when you started
  • No comparisons to your younger self - We embrace where you are now and improve from today
  • Strength training as self-respect - Prioritising your body is a form of self-care during perimenopause
  • Progressive overload principles - Gradually increasing challenges that build real strength and bone density

What My Clients Have to Say

    Alex

"I have gotten my motivation back to go to the gym"

"Sally is awesome. I started training with her when I had some shoulder issues to address and she was great at helping me set up my goals and reaching them.

She gave me homework so I could do more in between our sessions, and I kept a food diary to keep accountable with my nutrition. She even introduced me to climbing - something I have always wanted to do but never had the guts to try.

Sally is a very enthusiastic, knowledgable and dedicated PT and thanks to her I have gotten my motivation back to go to the gym.

Everyone should have Sally in their lives."

"Within a matter of weeks I felt like a different woman!"

“Sally spent time getting to know me as an individual – what my lifestyle is like, my likes and dislikes and what I wanted to achieve.

She took account of the fact that I have had a minor back problem since having my children. I've made manageable changes and I can easily maintain what I've achieved.”
